Your First Hunt: Capturing Jupiter

Your First Hunt: Capturing Jupiter

Now that your app is pointing right at Jupiter, its time to bring your Koolpte telescope into the action. Watch the video tutorial above, or follow these steps:

The 4-Step Capture Method:

1. Spot it with your naked eye: Look exactly where your phone is pointing. You should see a very bright "star". (Fun fact: Planets don't twinkle like regular stars; they shine with a steady, solid light).

2. Aim the Finderscope: Move your telescope so that the bright steady light of Jupiter is dead-center in the red dot (or crosshairs) of your finderscope.

3. The 25mm Rule: Look through your 25mm (low power) eyepiece. Jupiter should be somewhere in the field of view. Slowly turn the focus knob until it becomes a sharp, bright disc.

4. Zoom In: Once Jupiter is perfectly centered, carefully swap your 25mm eyepiece for your 10mm (high power) eyepiece. Refocus, and behold! You can now see Jupiter's dark equatorial cloud bands and up to four of its Galilean moons lined up beside it.

Mentor's Warning: The Earth is Spinning! > When you look at Jupiter through the 10mm eyepiece, you will notice it slowly drifting out of your view. Don't panic! Your telescope isn't broken. You are literally watching the Earth rotate in real-time. Just gently nudge your telescope to keep the planet centered.
